France: a new project on hemp and health began in Melle

The commune Mellois en Poitou informed healthcare workers from both the public and private sectors about the “Hemp and Health” project on March 25. The presentation took place on March 25 in the Tapis-Vert hall. After the talk, there was a taste of hemp-based foods from Mangeons Mellois, the catering service of the school.

People from Mellois en Poitou were in charge of running the event. Nicolas Ragot was in charge of economic attractiveness, Vanessa Ferrero was in charge of the local health contract, Sylvie Cousin was in charge of social solidarity, and Camille Lucbert was in charge of agricultural development. The project aims to promote hemp as a significant and beneficial food ingredient.

What hemp can do for your health

Nicolas Ragot highlighted the area’s leadership in hemp cultivation. Mellois en Poitou has led efforts to develop the hemp industry in the department since 2021, he said.

“We aim to assist local farmers in growing hemp and exploring its applications in food and building.”

People have recognized the great health benefits of hemp for a long time. People consider hemp flour a superfood because it boasts a high protein content of up to 65%, a gluten-free composition, and 30% fiber content in the husk. Hemp oil contains many important fatty acids. The Mangeons Mellois program makes a great addition to the meals of school cafeterias in Mellois en Poitou.

Dealing with problems in public health

The “Hemp and Health” project aims to address a number of public health issues, such as adults who are malnourished or undernourished, people who are bedridden or don’t move around much, and people who are intolerant to gluten. By incorporating hemp into diet plans, the initiative aims to provide vulnerable groups, such as nursing home residents (EHPADs), with healthy, easily accessible, and durable food options.

The project has received praise across the country, and it was selected as the winner of the Extreme Challenge program by the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME). The group Chanvre Nouvelle-Aquitaine also backs the project, which shows how important hemp is for public health and healthy farming.

A little more on the way to a healthier future

Hemp has the ability to improve food safety and support local farming because it is very versatile and high in nutrients. Hemp farming in Mellois en Poitou is made more profitable by the “Hemp and Health” program. It also helps meet bigger health and environmental goals. Adding hemp-based protein to daily meals is a big step toward making them healthier, and this project builds on that. To do this, it works closely with food service companies, farms, and doctors.
